Praised by the Los Angeles Times as a “versatile violinist,” Rachel Iba is a Los Angeles-based musician, conductor, performance artist, and educator whose career reflects the diverse creative landscape of the Southern California arts scene.
As a violinist, Iba performs regularly with leading ensembles including the Grammy-nominated Wild Up, Brightwork newmusic, and serves as concertmaster for Derrick Skye’s award-winning Bridge to Everywhere. She has been featured on NPR with the world-folk band Primero Sueño, and is a regular studio musician for film and television. Iba is also an accomplished baroque violinist, performing with Musica Angelica, LA Camerata, and Musica Transalpina.
As an educator, Iba is the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra—a groundbreaking program introducing young musicians to contemporary and cross-cultural music alongside traditional Western classical repertoire. The group made its Carnegie Hall debut in 2024.
She has taught and lectured extensively in performance and music history, appearing with institutions across the country, and is a regular pre-concert lecturer for the LA Philharmonic. Iba holds degrees from California Institute of the Arts and Oberlin Conservatory.
